軸椎（じくつい、axisまたはepistropheus）は椎骨のうち上から二番目にある骨、第二頚椎のこと。Cervix（頚部のラテン名、頚椎はVertebra cervicalisという）の二番目のため、C2と略して呼ばれる。環椎（第一頚椎）との間にある環軸関節は体軸に垂直な回転軸を形成し、頭部を回旋させる働きを持つ。軸椎の最も際立った特徴は、椎体上面から垂直に伸びる歯突起の存在である。

In anatomy, the second cervical vertebra (C2) of the spine is named the axis (from Latinaxis, "axle") or epistropheus.

It forms the pivot upon which the first cervical vertebra (the atlas), which carries thehead, rotates.

The most distinctive characteristic of this bone is the strong odontoid process ("dens") which rises perpendicularly from the upper surface of the body. That peculiar feature gives to the vertebra a rarely used third name: vertebra dentata. In some judicial hangings the odontoid process may break and hit the medulla oblongata, causing death.
